Water Security and Nutrient Transport with Ben Kelley

Streams carry large amounts of sediment and nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorous, and carbon into lakes like Lake Champlain. While these nutrients are a natural part of aquatic ecosystems, too much of them can fuel harmful cyanobacterial blooms that threaten ecosystem health, drinking water quality, and recreation. UVM grad student, field scientist, and data analyst Ben Kelley will leverage a decade-long monitoring effort of nutrient transport with machine learning from Self-Organizing Maps to present findings on the state of our water and what we can do to understand and reduce nutrient pollution.
