Nancy Levine & Rachel Spates Author Talk: Light: A Mother and Daughter Memoir of Anorexia

September 3, 2025 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Join the Pierson Library and the Flying Pig Bookstore for a compelling author talk featuring mother-daughter duo Nancy Levine and Rachel Spates as they present Light: A Mother and Daughter Memoir of Anorexia. Told from both of their perspectives, Light shares the harrowing and ultimately hopeful journey of Rachel’s struggle with and recovery from anorexia. Narrated primarily by Nancy, with powerful journal entries and reflections from Rachel before, during, and after treatment, this deeply personal memoir offers insight into the insidious voice of an eating disorder and the strength it takes to overcome it. The conversation will touch on mental health stigmas, OCD, family history, and the road to lasting recovery. Moderating the event is licensed psychologist-master Suzanne Adams, founder and clinical director of the Adams Center for Body and Mind. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
