Hiking rocks! Natural History Hike up Mt. Philo with UVM Professor of Geology Laura Webb (Offsite at Mt. Philo State Park)

July 14 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am

UVM Professor of Geology Laura Webb leads a family friendly uphill adventure introducing us to the natural history of Mt. Philo! See the rocks and relationships that speak to the tectonic history of the Appalachians, as well as some of the young sediments and striations that speak to the glacial and inland sea history of the Lake Champlain basin! Participants should be comfortable hiking up Philo’s main road at a leisurely pace, with intermittent breaks to admire and learn about the geologic splendor of a local landmark. Beat the heat with a 9:00am start from the parking lot at Mt. Philo State Park, where we’ll gather to begin our adventure. Bring plenty of water, as well as your thirst for geologic knowledge! To register, please call the library at 802-985-5124.  Participants receive free entry to the park for the morning hike.
