Exhibitionists Book Club: Poor Things
October 9 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
The Exhibitionists are back, and this time they’re taking on Alasdair Gray’s post-modern pastiche of Victorian literature: Poor Things. Heavily influenced by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (also influencing some artists in the New England Now exhibition), Poor Things is a delightfully playful novel written as a series of letters between the fictional characters. Gray was a muralist and cult writer in his time and place (1980s Scotland) who is getting wider recognition now. This discussion will focus on the book but may also touch upon the film and the Shelburne Museum exhibit. Led by Shelburne Museum’s Kat Redniss and the library’s Jasper Oliver, this is a book club chat you won’t want to miss!
