DESCRIPTION:For the next several months\, the Pierson Library is teaming up with the Shelburne Climate and Energy Committee on a new series of programs called Living with Climate Chaos. Each event will focus on a different component of our unique existential crisis–an earth with rapidly swaying climate changes and extreme weather conditions. To kick things off we’re reprising a program we did back in April for public philosophy week: a pondering of our philosophical positions around this sensitive topic. Climate change presents a host of challenges for conscientious people. This casual yet timely conversation seeks to explore the myriad potential responses around this important matter. DESCRIPTION:Nikolas Kerest\, the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont\, with representatives from federal investigative agencies\, will speak about the latest trends in elder fraud\, tell-tale signs of financial fraud\, and ways to prevent becoming a victim of fraud. Over 10 percent of older Americans experience some type of elder abuse each year\, and law enforcement is often on the front lines dealing with these cases\, many of which involve financial fraud. The Department of Justice and the law enforcement community have aggressively pursued justice for elders in a wide variety of fields. This program will cover past examples of these efforts while also providing forward-looking advice.
