But they don’t come with an instruction booklet\, so most of us aren’t aware of the surprising capabilities of the cameras in their phones. In this fun\, humorous and entertaining presentation\, freelance photographer\, David Beckett will demonstrate how to use the iPhone to take better photos\, how to edit those photos\, as well as the aesthetic considerations which separate a good photo from a dazzling one\, plus a dozen tips and tricks! This presentation is great for casual users\, the technically frustrated\, and even professional photographers fascinated to learn what that other camera they always have with them can do. Please note: this presentation is specifically for the use of iPhone cameras\, techniques for the camera phones of the other brands will not be included in the scope of this talk.

This gripping true story recounts the extraordinary escape of Ellen and William Craft\, an enslaved couple who fled Georgia in 1848 through a daring disguise—Ellen posing as a white\, disabled slaveholder and William as her enslaved servant. Traveling more than 1\,000 miles by train\, carriage\, and steamboat\, they navigated constant danger while exploiting the era’s rigid assumptions about race\, class\, and gender. Their successful escape made them prominent voices in the abolitionist movement\, but new threats under the Fugitive Slave Act forced them into further flight. At once a history of resistance\, a love story\, and a reflection on freedom\, the book brings to life a remarkable chapter of American history. SUMMARY:A Revolution Will Not be Tweeted (Historical Lecture)
DESCRIPTION:“We the People” are invited to a fascinating presentation exploring the history of printing during the American Revolution\, centered around an authentic old-style printing press. When the handwritten Declaration of Independence arrived at a local print shop on the evening of July 4\, 1776\, it was “mass produced” overnight\, though by today’s standards the process was anything but fast. Each copy was set entirely by hand\, one letter at a time\, carefully locked into a press bed and printed individually by hand. That same deliberate and intentional methodology used by early revolutionaries to spread the ideas of 1776 is still practiced today at A Revolutionary Press\, a working print shop in New Haven\, Vermont. During this presentation\, attendees will learn how the press’s mission\, deeply inspired by the Declaration of Independence\, guides its work to spark a different kind of revolution for the present and future by listening to and printing the words of today’s lesser-known radical and revolutionary thinkers. The presentation will be delivered by John Vincent\, Director of A Revolutionary Press\, and is offered free of charge thanks to our event partners\, Vermont Humanities and The Shelburne Historical Society.
