SUMMARY:Pop-up Book Club: The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning
DESCRIPTION:On facing our eventual demise\, beyond estates\, wills\, and directives\, there is an additional consideration: what to do with all our stuff? The Swedes have a name for this\, döstädning\, or death cleaning\, the gentle art of minimal owning to lighten the burden on our survivors. With kind humor and a necessary lightness for the potentially hard topic\, Magnusson details the concept brilliantly in The New York Times bestseller\, The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning. This pop-up book club conversation will be facilitated by space doula Tana Paddock and organization and productivity consultant Jo Durocher. Limited copies of the book are available to borrow at the first-floor information desk.

SUMMARY:Democracy in Our Time: A Discussion of Democracy Awakening
DESCRIPTION:This month\, we’ll discuss Democracy Awakening: Notes on the State of America by acclaimed historian Heather Cox Richardson. A New York Times bestseller and widely praised for its clarity and insight\, this work explores the historical roots of America’s current political climate and the growing threats to democratic institutions. Drawing on over 150 years of U.S. history from the Founding Fathers to the January 6 insurrection\, Richardson traces how political rhetoric\, misinformation\, and power struggles have shaped the nation’s trajectory. With the same accessible style that brings millions of readers to her newsletter Letters from an American\, she lays out where we’ve been\, how we got here\, and what’s at stake today. Copies of the book are available at the first-floor information desk. Please join us for this important conversation.

SUMMARY:Exhibitionists Book Club: Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl
DESCRIPTION:The Exhibitionists are back with another great book club series pairing great books with exhibits currently on display at Shelburne Museum. You might remember Carrie Brownstein as half of the comedy duo that made up the sketch show Portlandia\, but punk rockers remember her from the riot grrrl band Sleater-Kinney. We think her memoir pairs oh-so-nicely with the museum’s Sound\, Art\, and Ink Exhibit of Higher Ground gig posters currently on display at the Pizzagalli Gallery. To help facilitate the discussion\, we’re joined by Kat Redniss\, the museum’s Public Programs Educator.

SUMMARY:Tuesday Night Book Club: A Woman of No Importance
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a discussion of A Woman of No Importance by Sonia Purnell\, a true story of heroism\, espionage\, and resistance. In 1942 the Gestapo called her “the most dangerous of all Allied spies.” They were referring to Virginia Hall\, a determined American woman with a prosthetic leg who defied expectations and transformed the fight against Nazi occupation in France. As the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines\, Hall built covert networks\, organized sabotage missions\, and became a key force in the French Resistance. Copies of the book are available at the front desk\, and new members are welcome!
