SUMMARY:Unearth a Story: Join our 2026 Summer Reading Program!
DESCRIPTION:It’s summer at the Pierson\, which means it’s time for our annual Summer Reading Program! This year’s theme\, Unearth a Story\, invites you to explore the worlds of paleontology\, archaeology\, and discoveries that uncover stories\, knowledge\, and fun. Beginning June 13\, pick up a reading log and read three or more books. Return your completed log by August 15\, and your name will be entered into our grand prize drawings! Children ages 11 and under who complete and return their reading log will receive a ribbon granting them free admission to the Champlain Valley Fair. Plus\, one lucky winner in each age group (kids\, teens\, and adults) will receive a grand prize basket filled with gift cards\, experiences\, and more!

For the first half hour we take turns\, taking the lectern and reading aloud together from whole poetry collections. Whenever we finish one\, we vote on the next. We’re currently reading Women Poets from Antiquity to Now. The second half is devoted to poetic reflection\, news\, and the sharing of poems of your own (that you’ve written\, recently discovered\, or old faves). There’s a take–home prompt at the end for your own poetic practice. SUMMARY:The Glacial History of the Lake Memphremagog Basin with Dr. Stephen Wright
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Stephen Wright has been conducting fieldwork the past four years that focuses on understanding the evolution of glacial landscapes in the Northeast Kingdom. At this presentation he will outline our current understanding of what was happening in the region as the last big ice sheet that covered Vermont retreated northward toward the Québec border and beyond. Each of the rivers draining into Lake Memphremagog hosted a myriad of glacial lakes\, lakes much larger than the modern lakes that characterize this region: Lake Willoughby\, Crystal Lake\, and Lake Memphremagog. A rich and fascinating talk from a field scientist!
